Catigbian, Bohol - Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala distributed last week in remote Barangay Baang of the municipality of Catigbian - - 35 kilometers north of the capital city of Tagbilaran - - rehabilitation projects intended for earthquake and Typhoon Yolanda victims.

Alcala gave away through a raffle 15 Anglo Nubian – upgraded bucks, five heads of cattle, and nine carabaos with farm implements, amounting to six hundred thousand pesos. He also granted a thresher to another barangay in the municipality an approximately Ph 100,000
worth thresher that would service about 89 hectares of rice farms.

The Secretary also solicited from calamity - - affected residents - - their agriculture concerns, which included among others looking into alternative source of irrigation water as the earthquake has caused a spring source to dry up.
He also promised to send technical men to validate requests for a drying facility and a farm-to-market road.
Secretary Alcala also urged Catigbian farmers to integrate coffee or cacao under their coconut trees to maximize space utilization and increase income. (rafis/mspt)
