Sec. Alcala's Visit in Camotes Island

CAMOTES ISLAND, CEBU – Around 600 farmers and fisherfolk from the municipalities of San Francisco, Poro, Tudela, and Pilar received agricultural inputs in a recent visit of Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Proceso J. Alcala. The effort was part of the DA’s rehabilitation and reconstruction project of the victims of typhoon Yolanda in Camotes Island.

To replace the damaged vegetation, each municipality received 100 pcs coconut seedlings, bags of coconut fertilizers, assorted vegetables seeds (mongo, squash, tomato, okra, eggplant & pole sitao), 400 pcs of guyabano seedlings, 150 pcs jackfruit seedlings, 60 bundles of cassava planting materials, 25 units of pump boats and 10 bags of rice seeds.

Other agricultural inputs turned over to the municipality of Pilar were 10 bags of white corn seeds, 1000 camote cuttings and 2 knapsack sprayer. Tudela was given additional 1,000 camote cuttings, 300 duck eggs and 13,500 unit of insurance claims. For Poro & San Franciso, each received additional 10 bags of white corn seeds and 500 camote cuttings.

There were also allocated for raffles. Two knapsack sprayer, 2 carabaos, 3 cattles & 6 breeder goats were raffled in the municipality of Pilar. Two knapsack sprayer, 2 carabaos, 2 cattles, 6 breeder goats & 10 plastic drums were raffled in Tudela. Two knapsack sprayer, 3 carabaos, 3 cattles, 6 breeder goats, 10 plastic drums & 5 bags of corn seeds (yellow-hybrid) in Poro. As for, San Francisco, 2 knapsack sprayer, 3 carabaos, 2 cattles, 6 breeder goats, 10 plastic drums & 5 bags of corn seeds (yellow-hybrid) were raffled.

Alcala committed to give additional 1 unit 4-wheeled tractor, lying in facility for alimango, 2 farmalite planters and suyod at araro set for San Francisco. For Tudela, 1 unit 4-wheeled tractor, corn seeds, 2 unit mechanical planter, 2 unit tiller (upland), 1 unit corn mill and farm implements for the carabao were committed. For Poro, 1 unit 4-wheeled tractor, 15 farmalite corn planters, 2 corn seed planters, and expansion of sea weeds production were committed. Two corn planters and 5 mechanical cassava grater with presser were committed to Pilar.

Along with the secretary were Senator Cynthia Villar who is also the chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Food and DA Undersecretary for Operations Edilberto de Luna. Villar also allocated galvanized irons, organic fertilizers and relief goods for 100 badly hit families of the four municipalities.
