DA Secretary visited Cebu City Uplands, gave away projects

CEBU CITY  -  About  P3.5 M   worth of projects were distributed     to farmers and rural organizations  in  Cebu City     by Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala during his visit  in this city’s uplands last week.

 Constituting the projects handed over by the Secretary were 40 individual     insurance packages     covering accident, dismemberment and burial amounting to  P 2.2 M;  a carabao and plow  to each  of 18 rural organizations and the barangays of Malubog and Bonbon amounting to P 840,000;  and P36,000 worth of  plastic drums  to 30 farmers’ and youth organizations.

Knap sack sprayers estimated at  P22,500  were distributed to 10 organizations growingl mangoes,  vegetables and ornamental plants.  Water hoses valued at  P74,500 were also distributed to 18 farmers associations and the Cambinocot and Tiguib – Malubog Multi Purpose Coopeeratives.
Among other projects  and --  corresponding costs -- given away were a tractor – P118,000; coconut seedlings – P3,876, and various livelihood projects amounting to P100,000.

Meanwhile, DA 7  OIC Regional Executive Director  Angel Enriquez said that a hands on training on organic agriculture will soon be held in Cebu City barangays to reinforce knowledge on environment friendly farming systems.  (RAFIS/mspt).
