The Department of Agriculture (DA RFO 7) celebrates National Rice Awareness Month this November with a line-up of activities.

This was revealed by Fabio Enriquez, Chief of the Operations division of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 7 (DA RFO7) during the recent news forum at a hotel in Cebu City.

Enriquez said the celebration kicks off with a turn-over of the multi-million peso rice processing facility in Pilar, Bohol, on November 7, 2014.

The P150M facility is the biggest rice processing center in Central Visayas. The said plant will be turned over to the Bohol Farmers' Cooperative (BOFAMCO) with the DA as the overseer.

Brown Rice Day on November 14 is a feeding day to school kids. Marking the Brown Rice-Mixed Day on November 21 is a rice-based cooking contest to be participated by the different schools.

Health buffs may join the Run for Rice on November 29, which starts from the Capitol to the Plaza Independencia. Runners will receive a kilo of rice each and top three winners will each receive a sack of rice.

Proclamation No. 454, declares the month of November as National Rice Awareness Month during the term of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. The said declaration is also in line with the United Nation's recognition of rice as staple food of more than half of the world's population.

Public are enjoined to participate in any of the activities. (Anna Delza S. Barimbao)
