DA 7 Awards Outstanding Farmers

Outstanding farmers were awarded during the recent Regional Gawad Saka Awarding Ceremony held at a downtown hotel in Cebu City.

According to Director Angel Enriquez of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 7, the institutionalized search is to give honor to the farmers and fisherfolk who have contributed to the agriculture sector in the region.

The 20 awardees each received a plaque of recognition and a cash award of P30T for individual categories and P50T for organizations. The assisting technicians likewise received a cash award of P15T.

The individual awardees were Danilo Calamba,(Bilar, Bohol) Outstanding Rice Farmer ; Agapito Banol, (Carmen, Bohol) Outstanding Corn Farmer ; Artemio Lomosbog, Sr.,(Sagbayan, Bohol) Outstanding Organic Farmer ; Mustapa Rasid, (Dumaguete City) Outstanding Young Farmer ; Adolfo Piquero, (Candijay, Bohol) Outstanding Small Animal Raiser ; Margel Hilot,(Loboc, Bohol) Outstanding Coconut Farmer ; Lucy Casipong, (Mabinay, Negros Oriental) Outstanding Sugarcane farmer ; Julan Placibe, (Naga City, Cebu) Outstanding Fisherfolk.

Group awardees were the Tinagan Family ,(Dumaguete City) Outstanding Farm Family; San D' Mill Farmers' Organization (Dagohoy, Bohol), Outstanding Farmers' Organization; Rose 4H Club, (Dumaguete City), Outstanding Young Farmer Organization; San Juan Barangay Food Terminal, (San Juan, Siquijor) Outstanding Barangay Food Terminal; Bindoy Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (FARMC), (Bindoy, Negros Oriental), Outstanding FARMC ; Dumanhog Rural Improvement Club (Siquijor), Outstanding RIC.

Awardees of other categories were Leonarda Hernandez, (Dumaguete City) Outstanding Agricultural Extension Worker (AEW) ; Artemio Lomosbog, Sr., (Sagbayan, Bohol) Outstanding Organic Agriculture Individual Farmer; Philip Altamarino, (Dumaguete City) Outstanding City OA Focal Person ; and Marilyn Garbanzos, (Siquijor) Outstanding Rural Woman.

Two local government -owned facilities were recognized for their outstanding contribution in the area of livestock development-- the AI Breeding Center of Dumaguete City and the Livestock Production Center of Bayawan City.

Through the years, the Gawad Saka search has expanded to over 20 categories since it started in 1974 with less than 10 categories . (Anna Delza S. Barimbao)
