Farmers adopt the Artificial Insemination (AI) program of the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Offfice 7 (DA – RFO 7) for the production of livestock.

This was revealed during the Central Visayas Unified Artificial Insemination Program (CV-UNAIP) meeting held recently in Cebu City.

According to Joel Elumba, DA7 OIC – Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulatory, the number of farmers adopting the said technology has increased to 65% since the time it was introduced in 1960.

Elumba added that contributing to the adoption process is the information and education campaign as well as training programs for local technicians.

The development has encouraged the local government units to demand for more AI materials and training programs.

Marilou Escalona, livestock raiser, attended  a training program on AI in Bohol. In an interview conducted, she said that her implementation of the learnings gathered increased her income from 30% to 40% in 2014.

The DA continues to advocate AI this year. (Lolita Maramara – RAFIS)
