Regional Stakeholders Briefing on ASF

To prevent possible outbreak of the African Swine Fever (ASF) in the country, government agencies and private sectors converge today at Bayfront Hotel for the Central Visayas Regional Stakeholders Briefing on African Swine Fever.

DA is urging stakeholders to monitor and be vigilant on the entry of pork and by products from countries affected with ASF. The country has no cases of ASF.

Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations Joel Elumba of DA7 said that ASF is everyone's concern. "We must prevent the entry of ASF as this will affect the swine industry of the country. This briefing will solicit suggestions and recommendations for ASF.

Various issues and concerns are discussed today during the Central Visayas Regional Stakeholders Briefing on ASF at Bayfront Hotel, Cebu City.

Some issues discussed include the bringing of pork meat and by-products by travellers, transhipment of meat from one port to another port, proper disposal of animals and its wastes, and the hiring of veterinarians in large piggery farms.

Local Government Units (LGUS) also gave its commitment of support for the prevention of ASF.
