Farmers have to learn and adapt new farming technologies to improve production.

This is what farmers Judilyn Catacutan, Crisologo Taboada and Lorenza Sario of Banhigan, Badian, Cebu said after finishing the Season Long Training on Vegetable Production.

Their 4-months training proved that adapting new farm technologies and practices are much better than the usual traditional way of farming.

Among the technologies learned and applied during the training include the proper soil sterilization for land preparation, the use of plastic mulching, the importance and uses of vermi cast and other fertilizers, and the use of biological control agents.

Sario, the president of the Bahigan Farmers Association, expressed his gratitude to the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the training extended. "Look at our techno-demo able, we were able to produce many vegetables and this harvest festival is a concrete example that indeed we need to update what we were practicing before. We hope that DA will continue their support for the sustainability and profitability of our vegetable garden".

Among the harvested vegetables were eggplants, ampalaya, okra, pepper, squash, string beans, tomatoes and cucumber.

The training was attended by Vice Mayor Caballero, Brgy. Chairperson Nelia Comisison and representatives from the DA and the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO).
