Department of Agriculture-7 (DA-7) Regional Director Salvador Diputado said this statement today during an interview with ABSCBN TV Patrol Central Visayas in DA-7 Office , Maguikay, Mandaue City.

Director Diputado shared that as of today, CV has no ASF incidence report. The DA with the Quarantine Officers of the DA's Bureau of Animal Industry (DA-BAI) are closely coordinating for measures to be implemented against ASF. The issuance of memorandum on the banning of entry of pork and pork meat products from ASF affected countries shall be strictly implemented.

"We have a latest instruction from Secretary Emmanuel Pinol on the effective and immediate banning of entry of pork and pork meat products from Vietnam, because of an ASF report in that country", Diputado said.

The burning of some 100 kilos of meat and meat by-products confiscated last week from the inbound foreign travellers at the Mactan Airport showed strict enforcement of our quarantine measures and the vigilance of our quarantine officers and personnel of the Bureau of Customs (BoC) to prevent the spread of the virus to our livestock and poultry sector.

The Director also said that there's no need to worry on pork meat supply in the region. "We don't rely on meat importation from other countries. We have our own meat supply in the region. We have other local meat suppliers coming from Bukidnon, and other areas of Mindanao and Luzon", he added. (DA-7 RAFIS)
