Department of Agriculture -Central Visayas (DA-CV) installs today the Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council Chairperson Lou Cabalde as the farmer-director for the month of May.

The installation of the farmer director was led by DA-CV's Regional Technical Directors (RTDs) Marina Hermoso and Joel Elumba, with the division chiefs, banner programs and employees, held inside the DA-7 office during its Monday flag ceremony.

The installation is in compliance to Memorandum Order dated March 27, 2017 signed by DA Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol and the nationwide celebration of the Farmers' and Fisherfolk Month. Highlighting the installation was the symbolic turnover of the DA banner and the wearing of a "Sablay" giving the farmer-director some non-policy responsibilities for the farmers and fisherfolk.

This year’s theme “Magsasaka’t Mangigisdang Pilipino, saludo ang buong bansa sa sipag, tibay, at lakas niyo” aims to recognize the invaluable contributions of the farmers and fishers.

For this whole month celebration, DA-7 has lined up several activities to include thanksgiving mass in honor of San Isidro Labrador- the patron saint of the farmers and fishers, Farmers’ and Fisherfolk’s Orientation and Forum and the Tabo sa DA on May 21, 2019 and on May 29-31, 2019, respectively.
Under Proclamation No. 33 signed in 1989, Farmer’s and Fisherfolk’s Month is celebrated every month of May to give recognition and honor to the men and women who labor tirelessly towards sustainable food production.
