5th Regional Organic Agriculture Congress

More than 200 organic agriculture farmers and enthusiasts in Central Visayas gathered for the 5th Regional Organic Agriculture Congress held in an uptown hotel in Cebu City.

Delegates embraced this year's theme: OA4K: Organikong Agrikultura sa Kumikitang Kabuhayan para sa Kalusugan at Kapaligiran as their guiding principle in their engagement of organic farming.

The said 2-day congress is spearheaded by the Organic Agriculture Program of the Department of Agriculture VII. Mr. Jerry A. Dionson of the Visayas Small Farmer Representative, National Organic Agriculture Board attended the said congress and expressed support for the development of Organic Agriculture Program in the region.

Atty. Salvador D. Diputado, regional executive director of DA-7 in his speech, shared how other countries like Korea had implemented the OA program which is successful due to self-discipline.

Congress participants hail from the provinces of Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, and Negros Oriental. In attendance during the opening ceremony of the congress included DA-7 Director for Operations Marina Hermoso, ATI-7 Director Carol Daquio and the officers of Regional Organic Agriculture Confederation of the Visayas. A showcase of organic products and produce is on display at the congress area.
