Farmer-recipients of the Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) Program of the Department of Agriculture–Central Visayas (DA-CV) in Bohol Province receive their first farm interventions.

Beneficiaries are from the barangays of Cantores, Catigbian, Lubang, Lusong, Nueva Granada, and Nueva Montaña in the municipality of Buenavista and in barangays Cabasakan, Cangmundo, Campao Oriental, Saguise, Sto. Niño, and Taytay for the municipalities of Getafe.

The interventions include 1 piece of plastic drum, 2 bags of organic fertilizer, and 1 bag of inorganic fertilizer for the 180 farmer individuals of the said municipalities. These farmers will also receive vegetable seeds, insecticides, and sprinklers as part of SAAD’s project on vegetable prodiction.

Ms. Aurea M. Madrio, Regional Focal Person of SAAD DA-CV said that province of Bohol has a total allocation of Php18,294,000 to include different trainings and farm inputs for the vegetable and carabao production. Madrio is hopeful that the trainings attended by the farmer beneficiaries will be useful in their vegetable and carabao production. “This project aims to sustain and improve the lives of the poorest farmers in Bohol,” she added.

Mayor Dave R. Duallo of Buenavista said that he is grateful for the SAAD project given to their municipality. “All materials for vegetable production were given, the only thing that we should do is our labor in order to improve and sustain the said project. By the year 2020, I doubled the budget for the agriculture sector into 1 Million pesos to include the development of our nursery project and municipal public market that will help our farmers to have sustainable production and livelihood program”, Duallo added.

Getafe Mayor Casey Shaun M. Camacho, for this part thanked the SAAD DA-CV for the project received. “I am hoping that the produce of your vegetable production will be sold during our “Tabo” or “Agri Fair” in our town someday, that your knowledge and ideas learned from this project will be shared to your fellow farmers,” Camacho told the farmers.

Farmers from Buenavista and Getafe such as Lita J. Altariba of Barangay Nueva Montaña, Buenavista and Alberto T. Bemil of Barangay Sto. Niño, Getafe were very thankful to the SAAD program because they have now additional support for their daily food consumption and sustainable vegetable production.

The series of distribution of SAAD inputs in Bohol were held last week of August. Other municipalities are also scheduled to receive such interventions.
