Department of Agriculture-7 joins the 26th Meat Safety Consciousness Week (MSCW) with a theme “Karneng Pagkain, Sapat at Ligtas, Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita

ang Katumbas” and Its 47th National Meat Inspection Service Anniversary at NMIS, Sudlon, Maguikay, Mandaue City, Cebu on October 17, 2019.

One of the highlights of the activity is the ceremonial unveiling of “PINOY PORK is SAFE to EAT. Meat Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility” streamer followed by a signature campaign for commitment and support. “The fear of eating pork is expected when there are no assurances from proper government authorities that meat, particularly the pork is safe. The NMIS, as the sole national controlling authority tasked to regulate the safety of meat together with the Local Government Unit counterparts is obliged to inform consumers that the fear of eating pork is unfounded and has no basis at all”, said Dr. Eduardo R. Oblena, Acting Director II of NMIS-7. Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations, Joel A. Elumba of DA-7, encouraged the hog raisers especially the backyard raisers to apply the good animal husbandry practices which include the animal health, welfare, healthy living conditions and safe animal feeding to ensure that meat is safe to eat. To show the public that indeed pork is safe to eat, a symbolic eating of lechon followed after the opening ceremony. More than one hundred pork producers, suppliers and farmers attended the said event. The activity is in partnership with the Cebu Association of Veterinary Salesforce, Central Visayas Pork Producers Cooperative and the Virginia Farms, Inc.
