The Special Area for Agricultural Development (SAAD) program of the Department of Agriculture - Central Visayas (DA-CV) distributed improved goats with grower feeds to farmer-beneficiaries in Ayungon, Negros Oriental on January 7, 2020.

A total of 100 improved goats and 3,100 kilos of grower feeds were given to 20 qualified farmers from the selected five barangays of Kilaban, Inacban, Awa-an, Amdus, and Manogtong. Each farmer received one buck and four does with three bags (50 kilos per bag) of grower feeds.

Mayor Emarie F. Agustino, of Ayungon, expressed his gratitude to the DA-CV for the project, and is hopeful that the improved goat production project will be sustained by the farmers.

Agustino committed to assist the farmers in terms of animal health program services through the Barangay Livestock Aide (BLAide) of the municipality.

Provincial SAAD focal person of Negros Oriental, Bernard R. Limbaga, encouraged the farmers to venture in goat milk production because it is profitable and has high demand in the market. “The beneficiaries may establish communal agri-enterprise which can give them an additional income aside from goat raising”, Limbaga said.

Rosemarie B. Abrasado, farmer-beneficiary from barangay Manogtong, and a first timer to receive a project from DA-7, is very grateful to the said agency that she is excited to raise the goats received and hoped that she may sustain the project to have a sustainable income for her family, Abrasado added.

Jonathan E. Emperado, farmer-beneficiary from barangay Amdos, also shared that he was inspired to engage in goat milk production. He thanked the SAAD DA-CV for the project implemented in their barangay and planned to try dairy production soon.

Officers who witnessed the distribution of the improved goat production project were Jose Andro S. Vendiola of the Provincial Agricultural Technology Coordinating Office (PATCO) - Negros Oriental, Buen Y. Lagunero and staff of the Office of the Provincial Veterinary, Mary Marjurie A. Abella, municipal agriculturist of Ayungon, SAAD area coordinators, municipal councilors, and barangay captains, and among others.
