In accord with Agriculture Secretary William Dar's plant, plant, plant program, some areas of the Department of Agriculture (DA7) Ubay Stock Farm (USF) have been transformed into a vegetable field.
DA7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador D. Diputado bared that the wide swathe of barren and unproductive land in the Ubay Stock Farm is now a patch of productive land.

"The underutilized areas of the stock farm are now being planted with corn, peanuts, mung beans, soya beans, and other veggies, while other areas are also planted with high value crops like Ubi and fruits such as pineapple," Diputado said.
While the USF is dedicated as a livestock research, production and development center, it has available areas for expansion of pasture development which can be utilized as crop production areas.
After an ocular inspection conducted the previous month, Diputado in consultation with the USF in-charge, decided to convert some parts of the stock farm into a vegetable and fruit production area.
"We transformed some parts of the USF into a productive area in response to the call of Secretary William Dar, to increase food production and to develop idle lands for food security especially during this time of pandemic," Diputado explained.
He added that the area has a newly-installed irrigation system for the said purpose and very soon, a drip irrigation system.
"Thanks to the Plant, Plant, Plant initiatives of Secretary William Dar, the water in the dam will be fully utilized to harness the full productive potentials of the Ubay Stock Farm," Diputado shared on his facebook account.
The USF is the oldest livestock facility in the country which was established in 1917 as an animal holding during the american occupation. The stock farm has a total land area of 3,600 hectares and is also an accredited livestock training facility in the Visayas and Mindanao.
Other areas of the USF hold the Philippine Carabao Center.
Last month, Diputado led the actual planting of the vegetables in the said area and during his inspection of the farm recently, some of the vegetables are now in its vegetative stage. With him during the inspection were USF chief Jun Polistico, assistant chief Rody Geromo, former DA-7 RED Engr Ricardo Oblena and Bohol Agriculture Programs Coordinating Officer (APCO) Roman Dabalos.
The DA7 chief has been in close coordination with the different local chief executives of Central Visayas more particularly in the province of Bohol to intensify the campaign on plant, plant, plant program of the DA. He has been preoccupied with the distribution of fruit tree seedlings, vegetable seeds, rice seeds and fertilizers to the mayors of the various LGUs of the province.
