P15M Cocohub opens in Tuburan, Cebu

The Department of Agriculture-Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) and the Lamac Multipurpose Cooperative (LMPC) recently opened its P15 million Coconut Hub in Tuburan, Cebu.


Also a joint venture with the Land Bank of the Philippines and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), this project serves as a production center for various products from coconut.
DA7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador Diputado in the opening ceremony shared that this project is in compliance to Agriculture Secretary William Dar’s directive to assist coco farmers to survive and reboot in this time of pandemic.
Diputado went on that the LGU-Tuburan, Land Bank and DTI have a stake in the undertaking to fully utilize coconuts and assist coco farmers in marketing as well as provide employment to the residents.
The Lamac MPC produces and markets various amazing products from coconuts such as virgin coconut oil, coco sugar, ropes, decors and anti-soil erosion netting, including anti-COVID footbath matting.
Senator Cynthia Villar, Chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, a perennial supporter of Lamac MPC and LGU-Tuburan also extended her felicitations through her staff Jai Hinautan.
OIC Mayor Aljun Diamante of Tuburan, Cebu conveyed his profuse thanks to Secretary William Dar for the generous help extended by the DA to the LGU Tuburan.
Diamante said that he still need the support of DA in some other projects like irrigation, among others while expressing his support to the Gulayan sa Barangay program and other food production initiatives of the agency.
LMPC Manager Maria Elena Limocon expressed her thanks to Secretary William Dar for introducing the clustering approach especially of the small farmers for them to easily understand the project and programs of the coop.
"We have capacitated our small clustered farmers together with DA and other government agencies," Limocon said.###
