DA7 gives away multi-cultivator tillers to Camotes Island farmers

The Department of Agriculture - Central Visayas (DA7) turned over 2 units of multi-cultivator worth of P384,000.00 to the Adela Farmers Association (ADELFA) in Poro, Cebu and LGU- San Francisco, Cebu last August 27, 2020.
These multi-functional machines are used for weeding, hilling up, double-row tilling and furrow forming.


The DA is distributing this type of machinery to assist farmers in their farm labor, expand agricultural development and enhance the overall food production of the region.
DA7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador Diputado said that through this machine, the farmers will no longer use the manual method of farming or using carabaos to cultivate the land.
“It’s the mandate of Secretary William Dar to make sure that the support of the government will be directly given to the farmers and provide their needs in order to improve their farming practices and livelihood,” Diputado added.
Justiniano Cantuja, president of the ADELA Farmers Association with 35 active members expressed his gratitude to the DA for being one of the chosen association that will benefit from the project.
“I am thankful to our Agriculture Secretary William Dar for providing us machineries to make our work more convenient and faster compared to our traditional way of farming,” he said.
Before the turnover ceremony, DA-7 also conducted briefing on the operation and maintenance of the said machine.
Mayor Alfredo Arquillano of San Francisco shared his deep appreciation to the Secretary for the assistance received and commits a 200-hectare area for rice production using the excess water from lake Danao.
The turnover was witnessed by Mayor Edgar G. Rama of Poro, Cebu, Mayor Alfredo A. Arquillano, Jr. of San Francisco, Cebu, Miss Leidelyn Hinautan representative of the Office of Sen. Cynthia Villar in Central Visayas, DA7 High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) Coordinator John Dennis Ranario and Municipal Agriculturists of Poro Evangeline Laguna, and of San Francisco Dulcesima M. Maramba.
These projects are implemented under the DA-7's HVCDP in cooperation with the LGUs of Poro and San Francisco in Camotes Island, Cebu.
