Twenty farmers' groups in Tabuelan, Cebu will soon have additional income.

This after the livestock program of the Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) delivered and turned over to each of the farmer's organization 50 pullets and 10 cockerels of upgraded free-range chickens with 2 sacks of feeds under the Expanded Livestock and Poultry Production and Livelihood Project for Covid-19 Response of DA7 livestock program.

Dr. Zeam Voltaire Amper, DA7 livestock program coordinator said that this project aims to enable the farmer household beneficiaries to produce their own food and have the opportunity to raise additional income for their family.

"We want also to ensure meat and egg availability, accessibility and affordability, especially this time of pandemic, hence we have this type of project," Amper added.

Amper explained that the breeds of chickens given to the said farmers are both for egg (brown colored) and meat production.

"The said breed can reach 1.8kgs at 90days (3 months) and can lay 260-280 eggs in year given with good nutrition," Amper said.

DA7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador Diputado commented that the Tabuelan Farmers Federation composed of 20 farmers association are all RSBSA registered.

"That is why we continue to campaign for the farmers to register in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA) since this is now part of the requirement in providing agricultural assistance," Diputado said.

Diputado went on saying that this project is part of Secretary William Dar's commitment to enhance the food production in the country.
