The Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) recently turned over the composting facility for biodegradable wastes to the municipality of Jagna, Bohol.

DA7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador Diputado, handed the Certificate of Turnover to Ms. Gina Ranan, representing Jagna Mayor Joseph Ranola.
"This facility is another initiative of Secretary William Dar and Senator Cynthia Villar, to assist and promote organic agriculture," Diputado said. He added that the facility also aims to help the LGU and the community to adopt proper biodegradable waste management for a sustainable agriculture.
The facility, funded by the DA's Bureau of Soils and Water Management is part of the organic agriculture program of the DA.
In the same event, DA7 also turned over plastic mulch to the LGUs of Tubigon and Trinidad.
Plastic mulch is one of the interventions of DA to help the farmers improve their farming activities, increase yield and income. This plastic mulch is a UV polyethylene film (plastic roll with black and silver color) that is layed on top of the cultivated soil (raised seed bed).
The use of plastic mulch controls weed growth, prevents erosion and water-logging during the rainy months and conserves soil moisture during dry periods.
The recipient LGUs expressed their gratitude to DA7, Secretary William Dar and Senator Cynthia Villar for the said support and assistance. The event was held in Batuan during the launching of the regional rice derby.### (Josel Joy Fuentes/RAFIS_PATCO Bohol)
