In a bid to fast track the delivery of agricultural services, the Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) gathered the Local Chief Executives (LCE) and officials of some Cebu Northern Municipalities and four DA attached agencies for a one-on-one consultation and one-stop shop.

The activity held at DA7 Complex in Mandaue City, Cebu also provided an opportunity for the said Local Government Units (LGUs) to shop for their respective agricultural interventions.

DA7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador Diputado said that this is the first time in the agriculture sector's public service that a one-stop shop cluster approach is conducted especially with the LCEs to maximize efficiency by convergence.

"We are very thankful and delighted that despite the hectic schedules of these LCEs, they are here with their lists of proposed agricultural initiatives for consultation with the DA and other agencies," Diputado said.

The LCEs had interacted with the regional directors/managers of Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) Brendan Transmonte, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) Allan Poquita, Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) Eduardo Oblena, and the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) Engr. Robert Rebosura.

Mayors who participated were Mariano Martinez of San Remegio, Joven Mondigo, Jr. of Medellin, Noel Dotillos of Borbon, and Raul Gerona of Tabuelan.

Municipalities that sent their respective Municipal Agriculturists were Carmen, Daanbantayan, and Tuburan.

Cebu 4th District representative Janice Salimbangon sent her representative, Atty. Rose Mae Aterado.

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia was also invited to attend the said consultative meeting and sent her Provincial Agriculturist Roldan Saragena and Veterinarian Mary Rose Vincoy.

Diputado went on saying that although the Governor sent her representatives, she already committed 50 hectares of lot in the province for the establishment of coconut nursery, while Cebu 3rd District representative Pablo John Garcia expressed his commitment to look for another 50 hectares for the said project.

Diputado also requested Cebu City Mayor Edgar Labella for a 50-hectare lot for another coconut nursery and the Mayor committed 50 hectares.

Diputado explained that these commitments are results of the conduct of the convergence consultative meeting.

Regional Director Paquito Melicor of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-7 (DENR7) was also present in the said event to concur with the DA on the National Greening Program.

Melicor shared with Diputado that DENR will join the DA's clustering approach, and committed to establish a nursery for the traditional endemic plants of Cebu.

The activity was the initial phase of interaction with the LGUs. Other schedules are set on December 4 in Dumanjug, and December 9 in Balamban for southern municipalities cluster.

Diputado emphasized that the activity is in accord with the directives of Agriculture Secretary William Dar to campaign for an increased food production in the countryside.

"The DA is here to serve you so please interact with us and our partner agencies, and tell us how you want us to help you," Diputado said.
