DA7's irrigation project overwhelms Bohol farmers

Farmers in Dimiao, Bohol were overwhelmed to receive an irrigation project worth P11.6 million from the Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7).

DA7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador Diputado led the turnover of the completed Guinguyoran Diversion Dam (DD) to the Guinguyoran Small Irrigators Association (GSIA) in Dimiao, Bohol- the project beneficiary.

Dimiao Mayor Randolph L. Ang received the certificate of turnover from DA7 and handed over to the GSIA.

The DD project will provide irrigation water supply to 67 hectares riceland in Dimiao.

Director Diputado, in his message, encouraged the farmers to make additional water impounding not only as a source of water supply but for them to establish a pond for tilapia fingerlings.

He also told them to go into edible lanscaping by planting different varieties of vegetables as part of the "Gulayan sa Bayan, at Gulayan sa Barangay program" being promoted by Agriculture Secretary William Dar.

"Having this 'gulayan,' barangay Guinguyoran and even the whole municipality of Dimiao will have enough and available food for the community today and in the future," Diputado said.

Brgy. Chairman Roel Yecyec, who is also the president of GSIA expressed his utmost gratitude to DA Secretary William Dar and the whole DA7 through Atty. Salvador D. Diputado for this dream project of the farmers.

"We, the members of our association are really overwhelmed that this long-awaited irrigation project is finally done. We can now irrigate our rice fields," Yecyec said.

The Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) also distributed some 50 pieces dwarf coconut seedlings.

Bohol 2nd District Congressman Aris Aumentado and other local officials also attended the event.

Also present were representatives from PCA, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), and Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC).
