Farmers in Negros Oriental finished FFS on Organic Vegetables

Twenty nine farmers from Amlan, Negros Oriental recently finished the Season-Long Farmers Field School (FFS) on Organic Vegetables.

Jovencio Felisilda, Municipal Agriculture Officer (MAO) of Amlan, confirmed the farmers as graduates after completing the 16 weeks training on organic vegetable production funded under the Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).

Felisilda said that the training was started in July 28, 2020. "During the training, there are challenges encountered especially with this current health crisis, but we have successfully conducted our FFS with the strong cooperation of our farmers," Felisilda said.

Sarah Perocho, Department of Agriculture-7's Agricultural Program Coordinating Office (DA7-APCO) of the province said that the farmers are very resilient despite the pandemic. She added that the farmers endure the risk just to produce food.

Maricel Sibayan, one farmer graduates expressed her gratitude to DA, ATI and their MAO for the training.

"Maayo kaayo ni nga training nga amo naangkon. Ako jud ning i-share sa tibuok nakong pamilya ug mga silingan kay daku kaayo ikatabang sa among panginabuhian," Sibayan said(This training is really beneficial to us. I will share my learnings to my family and my neighbors as this is very useful in our livelihood.)

Sibayan said that by adopting organic way of farming vegetables, healthy and safe foods for the family are assured.

The FFS graduation was also attended by Brgy. Bio-os Barangay Chairperson Emelyn Rosales and personnel of the Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) and DA7 Provincial Agriculture Technology Coordinating Office (DA7 PATCO).
