Twenty five farmer's associations of Bohol recently received broiler chicks and feeds amounting to P232,450 from the Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7).

DA7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador D. Diputado and Bohol 1st District Representative Edgar M. Chatto, led the distribution of the 1,250 heads of broiler chicks and 87.5 sacks of feeds to the 25 farmer associations.

Diputado said that the project is part of Agriculture Secretary William Dar's Expanded Livestock and Poultry Production and Livelihood Project under the Ahon Lahat, Pagkaing Sapat (ALPAS) Kontra sa COVID-19 Response.

"In fact, the programs of our Secretary are multi-purpose. Aside from food production, the DA is also vigilant and is strengthening its measures against viral animal diseases like the African Swine Fever (ASF)," Diputado said.

He added that once our hog industry is affected with ASF, our food production supply like pork will be greatly affected.

"We are distributing chickens and letting you engage into broiler raising as an alternative livelihood from the usual hog raising, for the meantime that there is no cure or vaccine for ASF," Diputado said.

Recipients of the project included the Sikatuna Municipal-Based Native Chicken Growers Association, Bahay Bahay Farmers Association, Cansubayon Samahang Nayon Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Dauis Municipal-Based Chicken Growers Association, Calape Municipal-Based Native Chicken Growers Association, Lomboy Farmers Association, and Sagbayan Association of Farming Entrepreneurs.
