Six inbred rice varieties were showcased in a Palaysikatan Technology Demonstration held in Talibon, Bohol.

The Palaysikatan which was conducted by the Department of Agriculture - Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) together with the DA-Central Visayas (DA7) and the Local Government Units of Bohol showcased a mechanized technology demonstration of national and regional recommended inbred rice varieties.

These rice varieties were the NSIC Rc 216, NSIC Rc 222, NSIC Rc 442, NSIC Rc 436, NSIC Rc354 and PSB Rc 18.

The farmer-cooperators of the 6 varieties (1 farmer per varietal demo) allocated 1 hectare for the establishment of the techno demo area.

As part of the mechanized demo, a seed transplanter (riding type and walk-behind type) and combine harvester were featured during the transplanting and actual harvesting, respectively.

DA-7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador Diputado, encouraged the farners to engage themselves more to farming.

"Pakit-a mi nga nagkugi mo ug pananom kay once makita namo nga nagkugi mo, magkugi pod mi og panghatag og mga proyekto sa inyo," Diputado said.
(Show us that you're doing much in farming because we will also do more by giving you more project interventions.)

Diputado said that the project recipients must take good care of the DA’s projects and interventions like mechanization. From time to time, DA will conduct status inspection on the operation and maintenance as well as aftercare if these are still functional.

Talibon Mayor Janette Garcia shared that they (LGU-Talibon) are trying their best to help lessen the problems of their farmers with the visibility and support of their Municipal Agricultural Office (MAO).

Congressman Aristotle Aumentado expressed his thanks to Agriculture Secretary William Dar for the interventions given to the 2nd district and the entire province of Bohol. He said that they (3 house of representatives of Bohol) have joined forces for the approval of the 2021 proposed programs and budget of DA for a continued project implementation.

During the field day, some 150 farmers and guests from the towns of San Miguel, Trinidad, Bien Unido, Buenavista, Dagohoy, Jetafe, Inabanga and Talibon were guided to a field tour and orientation briefing on management practices.

PalaySikatan is a technology demonstration project under the RCEF Seed Program that uses research-based rice production techniques and on-field performance of mechanically established inbred rice varieties.

The Farmers Field Day and Forum was hosted by the San Francisco Farmers’ Association of Talibon, Bohol headed by Mr. Geoffrey S. Villamil.
