In consonance with the celebration of the Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Month, the Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) installed yesterday Ms. Virginia I. Dela Fuente as the Farmer-Director of the agency for the month of May.

Dela Fuente is a member of the Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council (RAFC7) who also chairs the Fruits and Vegetables Sector.
DA7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador D. Diputado, together with the Regional Technical Directors Joel Elumba of Operations and Dr. Wilberto Castillo of Research and Regulations, led the installation ceremony at the agency’s conference room.
Diputado, in his message, addressed Dela Fuente as the FRED or the Farmer Regional Executive Director, who will be representing the office, particularly in Cebu, to events of the farmers and fishers especially in the month of May where we are celebrating the farmers and fisherfolk’s month.
“I am happy that Dela Fuente accepted the responsibility of the FRED, in behalf of Lou Cabalde, the RAFC Chairperson, who begged-off this year’s assignment as FRED due to personal reason,” Diputado said.
He added that as the FRED, Dela Fuente will be able to contribute and help in addressing some problems besetting the region with their (AFC) counterparts in the municipalities. Among the problems mentioned by Atty. Diputado are the compliance of LGUs in the liquidation of fund transfers and the submission of masterlists of project beneficiaries.
Dela Fuente, in her response, said that she will do her best and enjoy with best attitude whatever is in store for her for the remaining days of May.
She said that she felt guilty, since most of her time (before the pandemic) was with other regions and countries helping them with their agriculture-related projects and proposals.
Diputado handed-in to Dela Fuente the certificate of installation as FRED, while Elumba and Castillo presented the symbolic DA medallion and banner, respectively.
The FRED Program is a yearly undertaking of DA and the Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF) to provide the members of the RAFC an opportunity to participate in the internal and external processes, programs and projects of the government.
The ceremony was attended by the members of the management committee of the DA7.###
