DA7 Distributes Cash Assistance to Rice Farmers in Cebu

The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 7 released a total of P 2.8M for the rice farmers in the city of Toledo and the municipality of Pinamungajan, yesterday.

The financial subsidy is under the Rice Comprehensive Enhancement Fund - Rice Farmers' Financial Assistance (RCEF-RFFA) program.

OIC- Regional Executive Director, Joel Elumba, said that the cash assistance worth P5,000 per farmer, is intended for all rice producers registered under the registry system for basic sector in agriculture (RSBSA), who are affected by the implementation of the Rice Tarrification Law ( RTL).

Present during the distribution are, Mayor Marjorie Perales of Toledo City, Congressman Pablo John Garcia of the 3rd district and DA Assistant Secretary Salvador Diputado.

RED Elumba added that the cash subsidy will also greatly help the farmers whose farms are severely damaged by typhoon Odette.

Currently, the region is processing the release of cash assistance to farmers in Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor. Some 71,366 rice farmers in Central Visayas will receive the said cash subsidy worth P361M within this month.
