The Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 7 through the Office of the DA Assistant Secretary for the Visayas, Salvador Diputado, and the provincial agriculture coordinating office (PATCO), recently turned over two sets of water pumps, worth around P200T to two farmer associations in Negros Oriental.

According to Bernard Limbaga, officer-in-charge of the PATCO, the machines are expected to boost production by 10 percent to the targeted farm areas, which has a current average production of 1.8 metric tons per hectare.

He said that the Sibulan Irrigators’ Association (SIA) and the Development on Economics Association for Meaning Life (DREAM-LIFE) are the identified beneficiaries of the said interventions which has a total corn area of 120 and 32 hectares, respectively.

Zosimo Catalan, president of SIA and Rey Sanguenza of DREAM-LIFE, said that the intervention answered the long time concern of water provision during dry season affecting corn production in their areas which expect to benefit 57 farmers of both associations.
