DA-7 turned over several agricultural equipment to Negros Oriental farmers.

The Department of Agriculture Central Visayas recently turned over a hauling truck worth P1.8M to the Lag-it Farmers Association, farm implements to Guincalaban farmers association, and a weighing scale worth P268T to the local government unit of Tayasan, Negros Oriental, yesterday.

According to Regional Executive Director Joel Elumba, who personally turned over the equipment, the associations need the interventions to be efficient in their farm operations.

The hauling truck from the rice program will facilitate the logistics needs of the farmers, the weighing scale from the livestock program will support the livestock trading industry of the municipality, while the farm implements from the RCEF program will aid the farmers in the production aspect.

RED Elumba advised farmers to diversify such as growing crops, vegetables, or raising livestock at the same time. He said that diversification is important to become resilient in times of calamities.

The president of Guincalaban Farmers Association, Mat Bolongaita, expressed his gratitude to the DA for the farm implements as it modernizes his daily farm activities; the president of Lag-it Farmer’s Association, Eugene Callao, was thankful for the hauling truck, as it solves their transportation needs. Tayasan Municipal Mayor Susano Ruper also expressed his gratitude to the DA for providing the much-needed weighing scale for the auction market operations.

The turnover ceremony was also attended by Provincial Agriculturist Emmanuel Caduyac, Provincial Veterinarian Belinda Villahermosa, Municipal Mayor Susano Ruperto, Municipal Agriculturist Marcial Taub, barangay captains, association presidents and its members.
