Speaking on behalf of the farmers who received the P5T cash subsidy from the Department of Agriculture’s Rice Farmers’ Financial Assistance program, Margie Malicay, rice farmer of Cang-atuyom, Siquijor, said they will use the assistance to buy fertilizers.

Director Joel Elumba who recently handed over the cash to the 137 rice farmers in Larena, Lazi, and Siquijor said that the assistance will greatly reduce the cost of production thereby increasing their income and yield. He also encouraged the farmers to practice integrated and diversified farming.

The cash subsidy came in time with the rising price of fertilizers around the globe—an assistance that was very much appreciated by the farmers who received it.
It was noted that a high yield was recently recorded at 3. 55 metric tons per hectare in the province, which was attributed to the adaption of good rice farming practices among the farmers in Siquijor.

Present during the cash distribution were Governor Zaldy Villa, Congressman Jake Vincent Villa, Agricultural Provincial Coordinating Officer Gregolito Bunado, and Provincial Agriculturist Emigdio Coritico, Field Operations Chief Gerry Avila, among others.
