A total of 30 farmers belonging to the indigenous people’s group in Negros Oriental receive cattle under the 4K’s program.

The recipients are members of the Lamdas Indigenous Coconut Farmers and Water Association in Mabinay, Negros Oriental. The cattle are part of the partial distribution of interventions of the DA’s Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K’s) Program.
According to Steve Martin, area coordinator, the distribution is a part of the proposed cattle production project to indigenous people which is expected to alleviate the plight of the ethnic groups by increasing their food production and income.
One of the beneficiaries of the program, Rosalina Tamondoc, said that to own a cattle is a dream come true. She said that financial constraints hindered her from owning one as basic needs always come first. She expressed her gratefulness to the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 7 for the opportunity of realizing her dream.
The president of the association, Ambrocio Depalas, also expressed his gratitude for the intervention he received as he can now start a livelihood.
4K’s is a program of the DA that is intended to help alleviate poverty among the indigenous people in the remote and mountainous areas where assistance and interventions of the government are impossible to implement.
The DA’s support for the IPs is embodied in the Indigenous People’s Rights Act which recognizes, protects, and promotes the rights of indigenous cultural minorities.
