Swine clustering in Central Visayas is seen to bolster the implementation of the Department of Agriculture projects for livestock raisers.

The clustering program is cited in the memorandum circular issued by Secretary William Dar for the implementation of its integrated national swine production initiatives for the recovery and expansion (INSPIRE) program.Increasing the swine population is the primary target of INSPIRE but it also considers the clustering of the small livestock players to address technical gaps along the supply chain.

According to Dr. Zeam Voltaire Amper, livestock focal, government grants include feeds, veterinary supplies, and 150 heads of piglets for each cluster developed in Pinamungahan, Cebu, and Basay, Negros Oriental. The said aid is channeled through the Agricultural Training Institute7.

Funds worth P5.5M can be downloaded to eligible farmers’ cooperatives and associations after meeting all requirements such as registration with the Department of Labor and Employment or with the Securities and Exchange Commission, among others.

Clusters are bound to adopt modern livestock facilities with climate-controlled systems and establish biosecurity facilities for disease resilience under the said program.
