The distribution is in support of Republic Act 10068 otherwise known as the Organic Agriculture Act, which declares the policy of the state to promote, propagate, develop and implement the practice of organic agriculture in the Philippines that will cumulatively enrich the fertility of the soil and increase farm productivity among others.

According to Mae Montecillo, organic program focal, they distributed 175 containers containing 20-kilograms of molasses each to the Mainit Farmers Association in Mainit, Naga City, Lepantohanong Hugpong sa Kalambuan in Lepanto, Alegria, and Pestales Agriculture Cooperative in Jampang, Argao.

Montecillo added that molasses is one of the key ingredients in the production of organic concoctions for soil amendment and organic pesticide or insect repellants such as indigenous microorganisms, fermented fruit juice, fermented plant juice, oriental herbal nutrients, among others. These inputs are vital in the care and management of organic crops.

The provision of molasses will help the farmers produce their fertilizers and pesticides, which helps in reducing the production cost.

Based on a study published in 2019 to farmers in M’lang North Cotabato, the role of extension, and the effect of organic inputs on the increase of production are just some of the stimuli for farmers to adopt organic agriculture.
