Farmers’ business in Tuburan, Cebu to full swing with DA7 grants

Agribusiness of farmers in the municipality of Tuburan, Cebu, is expected to be in full swing after the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office approved a grant for a processing center and a delivery truck. The package grant from the DA7 aims to benefit 500 farmers clustered by the partner cooperative, First Consolidated Cooperative Along Tañon Strait (FCCT). FCCT is a partner cooperative of the KADIWA program of the Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD).

OIC-Regional Executive Director Joel Elumba in his speech during the recent groundbreaking ceremony emphasized the sustainability mechanism to be adopted and a counterpart scheme be drawn in the operationalization of the project.

FCCT Agribusiness Officer, Clavel Aves said that farmers will be able to sell market-ready products as the facility is capable of choice cuts services for meat and packaging of vegetable products.

The P2.9M project which is targeted to be realized this year is envisioned to be a farm consolidation and processing center for agri-fishery products in Tuburan. Aside from the facility, the DA7 grants a delivery truck worth P1.4M to remedy the long-standing logistics concern of farmers in the area.

Gerald Tagupa, president of the Colonia Farmer Cluster expressed his elation about the project foreseeing a consolidation and marketing scheme to impact the agribusiness performance of the farmers.

It is noted that the KADIWA program of the DA has gained popularity with its double-edge support of offering cheap agricultural commodities to consumers and a venue for farmers to sell their products.

Currently, the KADIWA program funds sound proposals from farmers’ organizations and cooperatives, which are eligible to benefit from the program.
