Six farmer associations in the AMIA Village of Barangay Mantalongon, Dalaguete, Cebu received 867 sacks of inorganic fertilizers from the Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas, through the Adoption and Mitigation Initiative in Agriculture (AMIA) and Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pagasa (BP2) Programs.

Fabio Enriquez, chief of the Research Division, said that the distributed inorganic fertilizers which include complete, urea and ammonium phosphate, amounting to P 2.07 million, funder by BP2, benefitted six associations with 230 members from the AMIA Village.

These associations were the Mantalongon Irrigators Associations (MIA), Kapunungan sa mga Mang-uuma sa Sigpit (KAMSI), Mag-uuma sa Mantalongon nga Nagpakabana (MAMANA), Lahug Mantalongon Farmers Association (LAMFA), Granchina Vegetable Farmer Irrigators Association (GVFIA) and Suwa Mantalongon Farmers Association.

Enriquez said that the AMIA village in Mantalongon was established and launched in October last year.

Mantalongon, he said is a pilot beneficiary of the AMIA Program which was identified as a high risk area and prone to soil erosion.

"We introduced to them the Climate Resilient Agriculture (CRA) practices such as contour farming method and crops and livestock diversification," Enriquez said.

The Local Government Unit of Dalaguete (LGU), the barangay, together with farmer recipients thanked DA for the projects as these will help them in their livelihood, especially in the increasing prices of agricultural inputs.
