The Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) celebrates today until tomorrow (Oct. 8-9, 2022) the Animal Welfare Week, with a spay and neuter exclusively offered for their employees and the DA7's compound residents.

The activity, organized by the DA7's Regulatory Division, gives DA employees the chance to have their pets (cats and dogs) undergo either spay (ligate) and neuter (kapon) and be an advocate and role model of being responsible pet owners.

Xemenia Cuyos, an employee of DA7 and an animal welfare right advocate, said the activity is offered exclusively for the employees'

pets. "We have noted that in our previous spay and neuter activities, which were done on weekdays, some of our co-employees had no time to bring their pets and avail of the services because it's office hours.

We are very well supported with the DA7 management for conducting this kind of advocacy on responsible pet ownership."

The AWA week is in partnership and collaboration with Mandaue City Veterinary Office, Cebu City's Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF), Southwestern University-PHINMA, Philippine Veterinary Medical Association -Central Visayas Chapter and the Island Rescue Organization (IRO).

DA7's veterinarians also volunteered their services to ensure the smooth flow of the activity and successful.
