Farmers’ group receives greenhouse facility
A greenhouse facility worth P 1.7 million, funded under the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) of the Department of Agriculture-Central Visayas (DA7) was turned over recently to the Napayran United Farmers Association at Sudlon I, Cebu City.
DA7 OIC-Regional Executive Director Joel Elumba, handed the certificate of turnover to City Agriculturist Joelito Baclayon, which was then received by NUFA President Narciso Ragodos.
Aside from the greenhouse, the city agriculture also distributed assorted vegetables like lettuce, pechay, cabbage, carrots, among others.
Elumba encouraged the farmers to produce more vegetables, since local supply (Cebu City) cannot meet the local demand.
“Kulang ang atoang local production. Ang atong supply sa utanon naggikan pa sa Mindanao”, Elumba said.
(Our local production is not enough. We are importing vegetables from Mindanao.) Ragodos, thanked the DA and the city government for the support extended to them, as these are early Christmas gift they received. The greenhouse, he said will greatly helped in their vegetable production.
Elumba, on the other hand, campaigned for organic farming to help cope with the high cost of inorganic fertilizers.
