In a bid to develop another major fish trading hub in Panay, the Department of Agriculture through the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) has improved and expanded (into 5 meters wide and 166 meters long) the rock causeway fish landing of the Bancal fish port, in Carles, Iloilo, at a cost of P13 million. In addition, the DA through the National Agribusiness Corp. (NABCOR) also installed a P6.4-M liquid freezer facility at the port, where fish catch from Iloilo, other Panay provinces, Masbate and Romblon are unloaded daily. To complete the package of assistance, Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala (4th from left) said a P10-M farm-to-market road leading to Bancal will be constructed, and the DA through the Bureau of Agricultural Research will train rural women how to make sardines. Shown with him during the inauguration of the Bancal fishlanding and freezer are Iloilo 5thDistrict Rep.
