While the fledgling Philippine silk industry is no match to those of Goliaths likeChina, the FIDA believes it could make the industry earn a niche in Europe and other more sophisticated markets, particularly fashion capitalsFranceandItaly.  Export earnings from silk and silk products reached $457,177 by end-2012, up from the $390,796 in 2011.  FIDA administrator Soriano said that based on their roadmap, they have to build an industry and they have to tap the DTI and other partners for the industry to put up a textile mill that will capture the production.
