DA seeks P600M for El Niño projects

The DA is seeking a budget of P600M from the DBM for projects aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of the developing El Niño phenomenon.  This will be on top of the approved P74.1B budget of the DA for 2013.  DA Sec. Alcala said the impending dry spell was not anticipated during the creation of the 2013 department budget.

DA to distribute more equipment to farmers

To further increase the productivity and incomes of small farmers, the DA is vigorously pursuing a P6B farm mechanization program (FMP).  DA Sec. Alcala said that the money is used to purchase production and postharvest machinery and equipment, which will be provided to qualified farmers’ groups and cooperatives, irrigators’ associations and local government units.  Under the program, P1B was used last year, P2.6B this year and P2.4B in 2013.
