Nine agricultural extension workers of region 7 and the LGU Canlaon City were among those awarded by Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala during the honoring ceremonies for Agri Pinoy Rice Achievers Award held recently at Newport Performing Arts, Resorts World, Manila.

DA 7 challenges livestock technicians to practice mitigating measures
The expected weak El Niño phenomenon calls for persistent mitigating measures. In the recent livestock technicians’ meeting held in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, OIC RTD for Research and Regulations Joel Elumba encouraged livestock technicians to practice mitigating measures for the weak El Niño phenomenon which, according to PAGASA, is expected to hit early June.
Bantayan Island receives P32M typhoon Yolanda rehab projects
BANTAYAN, CEBU – Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala’s commitment of more than P32M worth of livelihood assistance brings hope to the residents of Bantayan Island (in Cebu) after disastrous typhoon Yolanda struck the island on November 8, 2013. Among the many agri-related livelihood projects for Bantayan Island committed by the national government during the visit of President Benigno Aquino III last February 25 include 3 4-wheeled tractors for the 3 municipalities. Each tractor will cost P2.2 million.
Participatory Rapid Disaster Appraisal on Yolanda
The first of a series of workshops for the implementation of a Participatory Rapid Disaster Appraisal (PRDA) in agriculture and fisheries was recently held in Mandaue City. The seminar was intended among others to lead agricultural development workers to “think out of the box” in crafting an integrated response in the rehabilitation of agriculture and fishery communities affected by typhoon Yolanda.

The Department of Agriculture Region - 7 (DA RFO 7), the Cebu City’s Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) and the Agriculture Office have join hands to implement Oplan Kabukiran, a task force created to address the needs of farmers affected by the extreme weather in the city’s uplands.

OIC Regional Executive Director Angel Enriquez shared the secretary’s message during last Monday’s flag ceremony to serve as guidepost of staff in the delivery of services to clientele. The Director exhorted staff to heed the Secretary’s call which provide direction in agricultural development efforts.

Simeon Ayuda Elementary School (SAES) in San Vicente, Liloan, Cebu will soon say goodbye on malnutrition with the decrease in their school’s prevalence rate. The Gulayan sa Paaralan (GPP) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) in coordination with Dept. of Education (DepEd) was a means to curb this long-overdue problem among schoolchildren.
